Prairie Ridge's Trinity Sheridan picked up volleyball less than three years ago, following in the footsteps of her older sisters, Savannah and Genesis. 

“At first, I hated volleyball,” Trinity Sheridan said. “I just wanted to pass the ball with (Savannah and Genesis) for fun. Until I tried out, I didn’t play at all. ... And then I fell in love with volleyball.”

Like her sisters, Trinity Sheridan will continue her volleyball career after high school. Last week, the Wolves junior committed to University of Nevada Las Vegas volleyball coach Dawn Sullivan and the NCAA Division-I Rebels.

Sheridan went on a visit to the Las Vegas school on Sept. 30 and made her decision three days later. She also had an offer from North Dakota and was talking to University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

“When I went to visit, I felt like it was the best fit for me,” Sheridan said. “I felt so supported and comfortable with everyone. I love their coaches and style. They are all so chill and to the point.

"The players were supportive, and the campus was amazing. It was such a good environment. I already felt like I was home."

Sheridan said the Rebels are a young team, making it a good fit for her personally. Last season, UNLV went 8-23 and 4-14 in the Mountain West Conference. Sullivan is in her first year, and the Rebels are 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the MWC.

“It’s so exciting,” Sheridan said. “I’m not too far into my volleyball career, so I think I can go far with the coaches and players, and really do something good. I want to leave everything on the court."

Sheridan said the Rebels coaching staff likely first saw her playing at the Girls Junior National Championships in Detroit during the summer. Sheridan plays on the same Sky High club team with Huntley’s Taylor Jakubowski (Seton Hall) and Josie Schmitendorf, Crystal Lake Central’s Madde Blake and Camryn Hausler, and Woodstock’s Sophie Wicker.

Sheridan's bigger dream, however, is playing on the United States Women’s National team.

“This is a very big step toward my ultimate dream” Sheridan said. “I hope to try out for the national team in college, because I want to compete in the Olympics. I’m just really looking forward to having fun and leaving everything on the court for the school."

For now, Sheridan is one of the top offensive players on a Prairie Ridge team that enters the week with a perfect 13-0 record in the Fox Valley Conference. The Wolves can claim their first outright FVC title since 2015, when they finished 12-0 in the FVC Fox, with their next two wins.

Sheridan is the third player from Prairie Ridge (21-3) to commit to a D-I school, joining seniors Jayden Otto (Eastern Michigan) and Sammi Lockwood (Notre Dame). Senior Maddie McGuire will play at D-II Illinois-Springfield.

“This team has been through so much,” Sheridan said of the Wolves. “I feel like we connect on the court so well together. We have something really special."
